New chapter of the American Art Therapy Association hosts first community event in Indiana.

Members of the Indiana Art Therapy Association will host their first community
event to introduce art therapy to Indianapolis and surrounding communities. An open house will be held
on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Art of the Soul Studio from 3 P.M.-5 P.M.

The American Art Therapy Association (AATA) defines art therapy as "an established mental health
profession that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and
emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved
in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills,
manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness and achieve insight.”

The Indiana Art Therapy Association is a professional organization in Indiana for art therapists, students,
and individuals who support the use of art in a therapeutic manner and the advancement of the art
therapy field. Art therapists will be at the open house to meet and greet the public.

Art of the Soul Studio is located in Broad Ripple at 5345 Winthrop Avenue, Suite C.; Indianapolis, IN
